One morning I saw a woman with a synthetic fro, an afro wig or something.

And I’ve been seeing more and more of them lately.

And they slightly tick me off.

I’ve been trying to grow my hair out to its healthiest, most obnoxious fro level while these women just get to plop a wig on and be glorious.

And my peevement (add that to your Webster) isn’t only toward the fake fro ladies. It’s towards all the people I see taking what I perceive as shortcuts to the successes I want.

They’re getting what I want with little to no effort.

I’m here putting in work, working my tail off to get where they’re getting in minutes or maybe fewer years than I.

But as I look at the fake fros and all the other jimmy rigged success stories, I imagine what’s underneath.

Maybe not much. Maybe a whole lot. I dunno.

But what I do know is that there’s a strength of character that comes from going through the trial to get to your success.

What I’m learning is that my success destination may only be someone else’s pitstop. So their use of a shortcut doesn’t lessen the value of their journey since we have different destinations.

And more importantly, with any long, tedious journey comes these. A deep appreciation alongside a heavy dose of humility. They’re engrained in the fabric of your success.

And when I really think about it, I want that more than any quick fro glory or instant success story.

Hope this helps!
