I think maturity is beginning to look like this for me.

Well wishes and sure footed goodbyes.

It’s an understanding of value…yours and the departing party’s.

People leave. Things don’t work out.

And in the process of understanding the aftermath, we tend to negatize (new word) that person.

“He was lame anyhow.”

“But remember when she said this.”

“It’s for the best because they were no good.”

We mud-wash that person’s character.

And it’s all to help make sense of it. It’s all to understand.

But in a recent goodbye I learned a valuable lesson.

Pray for them.

Lord, I’m ok, and I hope they’re ok too.

Prayer is the difference.

It shifts the focus from you and your thoughts and feelings to Jesus.

He has the capacity to hold both hearts in one hand.

To want the best for all involved.

And when you shift your gaze on Him, He shares some of that strength with you.

He increases your capacity.

He makes you ok and then miraculously gives you the ability to want the same for the other.

So be ok.

But not because you think you now know how much trash that person is.

But be ok as you’re hoping they too are ok.

Your ok is not in the context of them not being ok.

It stands outside of them. And so will you.

Hope this helps!
