I recently heard a sermon about indications of spiritual decay.

And I was hitting every indication. (Ya girl has been on E.)

The most interesting thing shared was that it’s often the people who have been serving God the longest that are more prone to this decay.

The comfort and familiarity and cushiness of our understanding of God lead us to pursue God less rather than more.

We rely on what we think to be true rather than having the audacity to pursue new, fresh revelation.

God, by definition, is incomprehensible.

We experience small glimpses of his vastness and awe inspiring ways.

But he cannot be fully known and contained by us.

And in response to that, I realized I have simply said cool.

If I can’t really really know you, then just show me.

I can’t see your face, so show me your hands.

Do this and that and that and that for me.

Prove to me you’re God.

And God is not to be belly rubbed and coerced.

We can’t simply offer lackluster worship, mindless reading of the Bible and divided hearts in hopes of getting him to move.

Instead, what if we simply sought God for who he is?

Seeking his face wholeheartedly in response to his personhood.

A good, good Father.

The Great Shepherd.

A loving King.

Gentle Ruler.

Holy.

In a previous blog, I mentioned that it was God’s vastness (see: Dust) that drew me to him.

But in this next decade of life, I pray it will be his nearness that helps me really seek him.

Not his hands, but his face.

Hope this helps,

Ambini
