I originally wrote this post on April 1, 2014 at 10:06 pm. I happened upon it in my phone this morning. The words still ring true.

………………………………………………………………….

One of the most delicate balances I know is the one of extraordinary kindness and being a doormat.

How do you balance the two?

Extreme givers often grow weary. The line of needs in front of them is stacked.

The giver looks behind them and finds the line of replenishers empty.

Who’s giving to the givers?

Four friends come to mind that are tireless givers. Unwavering in kindness. Consistently putting others above self.

And their lives strike me with awe.

Because I know it’s hard for them, yet they persist.

I know there’s the inner questions of “What would happen if I stopped giving? Who would still be here? If my giving tree dried up, who would revive me?”

And I know they’re not doing it for the accolades, but it sure would be nice to be recognized.

So, Toya, Olamide, Kiniqua, and Arturo I salute you. I see you, your tireless efforts, your crazy compassion, and unending support.

But more importantly, God sees you. He celebrates you and enjoys that you have chosen the path of great giving, to live beyond your limits, to pull more out of the dregs of your soul.

It is with honor I call you friend. Thank you for inspiring me.

And here’s what I feel God is saying: “Keep giving, and I will stack your line of replenishment. Keep loving and I will shower you in my unending love. Keep serving and I will serve you with the finest life, an abundance of my presence.”

Somehow each of you have mastered this lesson: “Our lives are to be lived for more than ourselves.”
You are each a portrait of this.

Keep it up!
